What happens next?

Teams and schedules are organized according to age group. Coaches are recruited for teams. Individual coaches will contact players by the beginning of April to let them know when their first practice will be. Games and practices begin in mid April, depending on field conditions.

When are the games?

Mini soccer games are generally held on Saturdays with practices one night a week. Divisional games are held on Saturdays and on weeknights.

Who are the coaches?

Most coaches and assistant coaches are parents who have an interest in soccer. All are volunteers. Coaches must complete a criminal record check and are offered a variety of coaching certification courses to improve their coaching skills. If you are interested in coaching, please indicate at the bottom of the registration form and complete the enclosed application form. Coaching a youth team can be a very rewarding experience.

What is a team parent?

A team parent can do many things to assist the coach. Duties may include making up a team phone list, circulating an orange list, distributing and collecting team uniforms and photos, planning any team social events, etc.

What are the different kinds of soccer?

Mini soccer (U6-U10) is a scaled down version of soccer. The field and ball are smaller, and the rules are designed to promote skill development, fitness and co-operation. There are between 3-8 players per team on the field at one time instead of the usual 11, giving everyone a chance to participate.

Divisional soccer (U11-U18 years) is a recreational level of soccer in which all clubs interlock with each other. U11 and U12 play 8-a-side soccer. Scores are recorded and standings are kept. Tiering is introduced in the form of a number of divisions per agegroup to allow each player to play in the league best suited to his or her ability.

Premier soccer (U12-U18 years) is designed to provide the more talented soccer players within COYSA the opportunity to play at the highest youth level. This level of soccer requires a larger committment of time & money and is currently known as the "Kelowna United" program. More Information>

How can I get involved in my child's sport?

Go to the games and cheer your child and his or her team on. There are plenty of volunteer opportunities for parents who are willing to help out. Please note on the registration form your interest in being involved in KYSA.
